Senior Support Worker

Country Connect have a focus on providing supports that improve the health of an individual through emotional and social wellbeing. This means identifying, providing, and creating opportunities for people to stay connected to family, culture and country and to build a life that they truly value.

This position exists to provide high quality and consistent support to people living with a disability or in our care.

The role will include providing quality community access opportunities, participating in return to country initiatives, supporting people with day-to-day living, providing support with personal care. The role will always advocate choice for our clients and promote capacity building during our engagement with people. Our staff support people to develop and gain skills in new areas and to innovatively create the space and confidence for them to do so. We aim to provide the most positive and fun experiences for people during their interactions with us. This may include but is not limited to visiting, and spending time with family, supporting respite and trips of a lifetime, participating in community events, getting out bush, getting out on the water, and being creative with other social and community activities. You will work with people to identify activities that are valued by them and create those opportunities. The sky is the limit when it comes to making great things happen for participants.

Our program currently spans Tiwi Islands, Ramingining, Jabiru, Darwin, Galiwin’ku, Milingimbi, Gove Pensinsula. This role requires someone based in Darwin who is willing to travel to some of these locations at least 2 weeks in every month as well as support the Darwin team when clients travel into Darwin for respite. In our remote locations you will be expected to support local teams and coordinate activities as well as offer support to teams in the reporting and safety aspects of our work. Your role in Darwin will be to make respite trips one of a kind and outstanding experiences for participants.

Our team includes people with sporting backgrounds, musicians, trades and construction workers, community workers, health workers.

The most essential criteria is an ability to form positive and meaningful relationships, a positive can-do attitude and creativity to get things happening. We value consistency and reliability as one of the most important offerings of our program.

Patience, adaptability and the ability to remain calm in a variety of high intensity situations is critical. Previous experience in trauma-informed practises should be addressed in your application.

Experience working or living out bush or in a remote environment is desirable but not critical. This role will require you to have some experience and interest in camping, 4WDing and other outdoor pursuits.

Also:

  • An ability to work both independently and as part of a (cross cultural) team is essential. You must also be able to travel regularly for several weeks at a time and be willing to travel in light aircraft.

  • An NT class C manual drivers licence

  • Working with Children clearance and national police check (or willingness to obtain)

  • Current First Aid certificate

  • Allied Health qualifications or Certificate in individual Supports or Community Services would be highly regarded
